One of the most anticipated albums this year is M.I.A.´s mostly Blaqstarr produced LP (due out in the summer). On Monday she tweeted FUCK NEW YORK TIMES in response to a tasteless article calling Sri Lanka no 1 vacation destination of 2010 and posted graphic images of violence against the Tamil population. On Tuesday she tweeted Theres Space For Ol Dat I See – her new song and video! Its different-sounding compared to her last material and she´s singing.
UPDATE: the track is titled Space Odyssey and it´s produced by M.I.A. and dubstep producer Rusko.

What a visual trip.
The singing lips are the best part.
The video is directed by Jimena Oddi & Jorge Jaramillo.

The multitalented M.I.A. directs new video for Rye Rye. The video for Bang also features M.I.A. She used to be a visual artist, so it´s only natural for M.I.A. to work with visual stuff.
M.I.A. and Diplo collaboration Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. I was originally released in late 2004.
21 tracks still sound oh so very fresh.

Artist, Producer, DJ, singer, fashion designer, activist. Sri Lankan pop star M.I.A. wields global influence across genres. That put her on this year’s TIME 100.
Baltimore´s Rye Rye is the first artist signed to M.I.A.’s record label N.E.E.T. M.I.A. stated that all her teenage-angst kind of songs go to Rye Rye. Here´s one, the new song Bang, whichcan be heard on Rye Rye´s MySpace. It´s a drum heavy, fresh track produced by Blaqstarr.

Didn´t care so much about N.A.S.A.´s track Whachadoin?, but the remixes have changed my mind. Especially when M.I.A.´s role has been elevated. These two remixes have picked up the most buzz in the blogosphere, the Villains and DJ Chernobyl remix of Whachadoin?
M.I.A., Kanye West, Jay-Z, T.I. and Lil Wayne perform Swagga Like Us at the Grammy Awards yesterday night. M.I.A. is very pregnant (it´s her due date) and it´s absolute great to see her on stage with the biggest hip hop stars. You don´t usually see women like that with the rappers. I love M.I.A., her politics and her attitude. She´s so unique.

It´s the time that everyone lists their favorite singles and albums of the year. MGMT and Santogold are high on the lists and I agree, L.E.S. Artistes is probably the best song of 2008 and Time To Pretend also reflects the year very well. But the list that I noticed the most is Slant Magazine´s best singles of the year. Slant puts two of my favorite artists, M.I.A. and Madonna, on top.
1. M.I.A. – Paper Planes A song about immigration whose sound draws a provocative link between violence and capitalism, “Paper Planes” was the bomb way before that conundrum known as M.I.A. licensed it to Sony and Fox and Billboard and Grammy dutifully responded. This ubiquitous anthem is the singer’s least murky provocation to date, an ironic address of terrorism as a matter of moral and political judgment, but feel no guilt for stomping along to its driving beats. That’s just M.I.A.’s way of pulling up the people to her cause. Also, you know Noam Chomsky’s got it on his iPod. (Slant / Ed Gonzalez)
2. Madonna – Beat Goes On No amount of fake scandal and misbehavior (A-Rod! McCain=Hitler!) can make up for the fact that Madonna’s bid for hip-hop relevance flopped. So it’s fitting that Hard Candy’s best song, “Beat Goes On” (a Pharrell-derived, note-perfect hybrid of “Ring My Bell” disco and darkwave tech-hop that also features Kanye West’s best rap of the year), hasn’t even been officially released as a single yet despite garnering substantial airplay on the nation’s biggest dance station. Three cheers for the counterintuitive! ( Slant / Dave Hughes) Beat Goes On is so uplifting, it´s one of those songs that makes you believe everything is possible.
