Just can´t help loving everything the MGMT guys do. Now it´s the new MGMT video The Youth, directed by Eric Wareheim. The song is brilliant and the video to The Youth carries the consistent psychedelic electro/indie MGMT style, this time with breakdancing disco kids.
Sweden is an amazing country. There are only 8 million people and yet the country manages to produce constantly music and artists for the whole world to enjoy. I guess it´s all that well-being and middle class life that makes it possible for everyone to just concentrate on beautiful things like art, creativity and self expression.
Earlier today I posted El Perro del Mar´s Glory To The World video; El Perro del Mar is Sarah Assbring from Sweden. Today I read about The New Yorker music columnist Sasha Frere-Jones´ favorite album of the year, which is Anna Ternheim’s Halfway To Fivepoints. Anna heils from Stockholm, Sweden. Both El Perro del Mar and Anna Ternheim are talented singer-songwriters with their own unique style.
Anna Ternheim offers free download, an acoustic version of her upcoming single What Have I Done. Download “What Have I Done”on annaternheim.com and watch Anna and Björn Yttling play the acoustic version below:
Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo) by Black Kids is the third single from their debut album Partie Traumatic. The video is fun fun fun, cartoons, racing, space and nostalgically cheerful, just like the Black Kids always are.
I didn´t pay much attention to Uh Huh Her earlier, beside noticing that it´s L-Word actress Leisha Hailey´s band. After hearing Not A Love Song I was pleasantly suprised with their synth-influenced rock sound. Uh Huh Her is an indie electro pop (or synth rock) band that named themselves after PJ Harvey´s excellent album. Check the Not A Love Song video, directed by Isaac Rentz, below:
Released on September 8th 2008, Impatience is the new single from Brooklyn’s We Are Scientists´. Watch bassist Chris Cain turning into a werewolf below:
The previous single and video After Hours by We Are Scientists is also based on the same kind of humour and bassist Chris Cain being the underdog in the beginning:
The Black Kids debut album Partie Traumatic is out Monday. It´s produced by ex-Suede Bernard Butler and includes the marvellous single I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You. To celebrate the release, Black Kids offers free MP3, a track called Love Me Already. You can download it here. Just remember to select UK as your country and add UK postal code (like KT3 4RF).
Foals is called a math-rock band, I guess due to their minimalistic, academic and structured approach to rock music. RCRD offers free Foals download Olympic Airways (Wudwerd Vox). The remix is also a bit academic and structured (some people might say soulless and dry).
Download Olympic Airways (Wudwerd Vox) by Foalshere.
Martha Wainwright has great album title and cover! I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too is out in the UK and she´s currently on tour promoting the new album. I´m no fan of folk rock, but I like Martha ´s style. She and her brother Rufus are terribly interesting characters.
My favorite Martha performance is Snow Patrol featuring Martha Wainwright "Set the Fire to the Third Bar". She steals the show. And the song is amazing.
Islandic weirdos Sigur Ros have released the first track from their new album. Download Gobbledigook for free here . The upcoming album is produced by Flood (pretty interesting) and the band.
The new video is also available, see it here . It contains adult content - naked people running around and playing in the forest and on the beach. Free love, hippie hippie wonderland and hippie hippie paradise. But anyway, Sigur Ros makes amazing music with their own consistent style.
Wolf Parade is giving away a new track "Language City" via their MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/wolfparade. The Montreal based indie rock band´s second album At Mount Zoomer is scheduled to be released in June.
